Information given on the website about Dihydrotestosterone

Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is also known as androstanolone or just stanolone. It is a sex steroid and a type of hormone that is endogenous. There is a special type of enzyme known as 5α-reductase that catalyzes the formation of DHT from the testosterone into a tissue. These tissues that are formed include seminal vesicles, prostate gland, hair follicles, brain, liver and epididymides. When DHT is considered, it is a strong potent of the androgen receptor (AR) as an agonist. This is a hormone that is basically very important for the biological process of sexual differentiation. It acts in the formation of male genitalia during the process of embryogenesis. Later on it acts its part during puberty in the maturation of penis, growth of pubic hairs, sebum production, also the growth of facial and body hairs and finally the development and the maintenance of the prostate gland and the seminal vesicles which makes a man a man. 5α-reductase produces DHT from a less potent testosterone only in select tissues.

It is also considered the primary androgen in the prostate gland, seminal vesicles, genital, hair follicles and skin. The signaling of DHT is mainly intracrine and paracrine in nature. The signals are found in the tissues in which the hormone is produced. This plays only a minor role. The major function of this is to act as a circulating endocrine hormone. This hormone can even be inactivated by a 3α- hydroxysteroid hydrogenase.

When it is given exogenously the result has been reported to be a very poor anabolic agent. Along with the biological functions that are normal, the other function of DHT is a causative role that is important in a number of conditions that are dependent on androgen. These conditions are acne, hirsutism, pattern hair loss like androgenic alopecia or baldness that occurs in patterns and also seborrhea.  It is also responsible for prostate diseases like cancer in the prostate regions, benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Information available in the internet

There are a number of websites that give information on the various conditions that are caused by this hormone. Wikipedia is a website that has almost all information that is to know about the roles of this hormone in human body. Information provided by this website is cross checked for errors. They try to give the most correct information available through a number of studies. There are a number of conditions that are related to this hormone. Production of fewer amounts will result in deficiency while higher amounts of this hormone level will create other problems on men. Deficiency of this hormone may result in the absence of facial hair. The time of hitting puberty is important for men as a number of changes occur in the body. Development of secondary sexual characteristics like partial virilization of the genitals, deepening of the voice, musculoskeletal development of a typical male and the absence of menstruation that differentiates men from women. There are a number of medicines that are prescribed that can improve this condition.
